There is no need to put one between the panel and the controller. We recommend using circuit breakers or fuses to add another layer of protection between the controller and battery. If there is any short circuit, the extra protection can prevent the connected devices from getting damaged. It can also lower the chances of high tempeature within the wire and protect any connected devices from catching fire. However, they are not necessary components for the system to run properly.
